There are good movies, and there are GOOD movies. This one, is one of those. After the disastrous Batman & Robin I thought I lost all hope to see my favorite comic character into big screen. BR really broke my heart, and made me vomit. But Batman Begins...I personally want to kiss ChristopherNolan's feet for making this movie. Ever since its debut in the theater, I've been watching it every week, it became a ritual for me. Some call it an idiotic-crazy-obssesive-compulsive-behavior, I called it passionate.
The movie tells the story how Bruce Wayne becomes Batman. His journey to becomes the Batman. Sure, we all know the history. But do you feel the history? All the movie franchise explains his origin, but never actually touch the emotional subject of it. It scraps the bottom of the history, lift it up, and serve it to the audience with a whole new delight. Really hit the nerve with all the touchy subjects of loss of parents, loss of lover, loss of life basically. Bruce despite his wealth, lost his soul. Christian Bale is brilliant potraying this lonely human being. Batman is not just a dark knight/superhero/caped crusader...he's a human with issues. I am so surprised to see him very bulky and toned, after just seeing him in The Machinist. He looked a skeleton in that movie, but as Batman, he's so convincingly bigger and better. Method acting really becomes you, eh?
Bruce's parents are murdered in front of him. Growing up, the only thing that keep him alive is his revenge wish. But his chance abruptly taken from him when the killer is killed by a mafia. He travel around the world to seek the means of fighting injustice, and he met Ra's and Ducard who teaches him the League of Shadow way. When he discovers that they're actually terrorist, he back down and return to Gotham city to become Batman. He has to face his inner demon, battle out the baddies and face the cruel reality about his beloved people.
The movie is very different from the previous comical way, it's very dark and solemn, it really feels like human drama movie instead of phoney comic movie. A good fan and those who appreciate storylines, will falling in love with Batman Begins. I do meet several people that said that they feel it's too dramatical and prefer the comical potrayal like superhero movies suppose to be. I thought they're nuts. It's like you are given a chance to drive a Jaguar Roadster, but turn it down 'cause you prefer bus.
I love Liam Neeson here. His character potrayal is so convincing, I want to drop everything and join him and serve him as his slave. Everyone in this movie are delivers the performance greatly; Bruce, Ducard, Ra's, Alfred, Lucius, Gordon, Falcone, Flass, Earle, Thomas Wayne, Joe Chill...I especially took notes of breakthrough performance from Cillian Murphy as Jonathan Crane...he brings the whole creepiness in this movie. He doesn't have to be menacing, but I definitely don't want to walk on the same side as he is. The only minus factor from this movie, it's Katie Holmes. Yes, she's pretty decent. But they can cast someone else that is much better actress than she is. I seems harsh -- the reality is she's not as caliber as these people in this movie, and it really topple the whole balance of the movie. Her personal life really distract the promotion of this movie, it's insane. I can't feel her in the movie, it seems she's just there in the movie, but not really performing.
I shed a tear or two watching this movie. Bruce/Alfred moments made me cry. Thomas/Bruce moments also made me cry. There are several moral messages in it, and it's a great achievement in a movie. I keep this movie very close in my heart, and hopefuly y'all too.

rande May 27, 2006 04:53 PM PDT totally agree with you... i'm one of the fans who thought that this movie is brillliant. The cast are almost perfect... loved the chemistry between everyone of the player.. C.Bale, M. Caine, M. Freeman, L. Neeson, G. Oldman...
and absolutely agree about the role of K. Holmes... i somehow feel that she's trying to deliver the same character as Joan Allen did in Bourne Supremacy. but not quite as strong and natural as she'd hope.. *or i hoped..??*
but nevertheless, this is one of the greatest movie about superhero's, besides C. Reeves's Superman Trilogy...
HoneyBee April 14, 2006 03:42 PM PDT i know what you mean. i think the main point of the movie which should be left on the cutting room floor is KH's performance. she was nice, but i didnt care dat much of her in dis movie.
rico April 14, 2006 09:16 AM PDT i really liked this movie. i just wish a couple of the lame one-liners had been left on the cutting room floor. everything else, mood, acting, effects, action were perfect
reygreena December 17, 2005 01:18 PM PST i like this batman... dalem, jelas, full action. emang sih gara2 publisitas katie holmes yg kurang sedap, liat dia di film ini juga jadi kurang mantab :)
Due to my hectic schedule, I will not be able to review all new movies every week. I apologize. I will however review some older movies from DVDs from time to time. Thank you for understanding.
