Napoleon Dynamite

Gosh, I think this is one of the nerdiest and geekiest movie I've ever watch. It's flippin good! I'm still busting into spontaneous laughter whenever one of those silly one-liners or blank-faced dead-pan non-sequitirs comes to mind. Fresh, original, funny, and sweet rehash of by now hackneyed teen-genre school satire. A satire grey comedy for those who thinks that high school is overrated anyway. Hahaha. I know I do.

Napoleon Dynamite (John Heder) is a dorky and geeky high school student with a perm curly hair who likes to draw fantasy characters, eats tater-tots, and bragging implausable stories. His best friend is Pedro (Efren Ramirez) who is an introvert Mexican and Napoleon wasted no time to declare him as his friend. Deb (Tina Marjorino) is a shy and also introvert, but somehow they are becoming closer. Napoleon lives with his wimpy brother, Kip (Aaron Ruell) and their grandmother. When their grandma has to be taken to the hospital because of a motorcycle injury, their uncle Rico (John Gries) is taking over the house. With nothing to do in their boring live, Napoleon is helping Pedro to be a Class President against the most popular cheerleader, Summer (Haylie Duff).

I just wanna say, don't expect too much from this movie -- if you are looking for a typical teenager movie with high school background like party, sex, teachers, and one of those things; feel free to watch something else like American Pie or She's All That. But if you want to watch something different about geeky kids living their boring life and yet you still intrigue by its simplicity humor, I really recommend this. I thought this movie is very different and I was laughing everytime Napoleon talks, walks, even just standing there like an idiot. I dunno whether he's a naive guy or just plain flat dry. Great performance by John Heder as Napoleon. He delivers his performance with a dead-beat-dead-pan dialogue. If you don't see glimpses of your own childhood in the various awkwardnesses and failures of the main characters, you're in denial. The elements are unbroken deadpan, satire of the most ridicule and trivial aspects of underdog consumer pop culture, and a whimsical plot completely at the service of weirdos. The characters manage to find an oblique affection for each other, encouraging the audience to do the same with humor, warmth and indie goofiness

One thing though; I spent a better half of my time watching this movie trying to figure out which decade this movie based on. Because the clothing styles looks like from the 80s but the music comes from the 90s. But then I realize, that people that living in Idaho apparently still living like the time hasn't change at all! Gosh, I just had a flashback from my staying in Mid-West. This movie really speaks to me. I just wish they cast better looking people though...ugh. I mean, the jock is so damn fugly. What the heck? The BEST feature in this movie of course is when Napoleon dancing on the stage. I've seen many of my friends trying to imitate his dancing. Always make me laugh. If there is such thing as moral message, well it's about how people can achieve anything if they just don't give damn about what people might think and just do it. In the mean time, practice those dancing moves!
