Well, I survived this movie. I thought the movie is...okay. I am not saying it's an Oscar material or even deserve my appraisal, but it's decent. Predictable, but okay. I spent the entire movie talking and babbling to my friend about what's gonna happen, without even know what's gonna happen. My friend thought I watched this movie, but a predictable movie does contain predictable storyline. And someone please kick Scott Caan on the head, please? He is so annoying. Anyway, this film reminds me how much I used to love scuba diving.
Jared (Paul Walker) and Sam (Jessica Alba) are running a scuba diving business in Bahamas and on their spare time they are treasure hunters, occassionaly looking for treasures from sunken ships in the ocean. Bryce (Scott Caan) is Jared's best friend and he brought along a coke addict gal named Amanda (Ashley Scott), and the four of them accidently found a sunken airplane fills with drugs. Instead turning their findings to the police, they decided to keep it. Unbeknownst to them that they put themselves into a horrible situation with drug lords and another rival treasure hunter named Bates (Josh Brolin).
Though its premise wasn't the most intellectual of premises, I don't feel as if it were dumbed down as much as many action movies do, and instead carried out its plot with due respect given its expectations. The movie is not great, but it faithfully executed its focus, and if you are looking for some pop-corn movie which you don't have to think of anything and just enjoy beautiful ocean scenery, beautiful people and bodies, and some action to carry the plot, you might enjoy this.
I still think that the movie should be better, but I think it's fair enough with its target audiences. I enjoyed the pacing of the movie, and there are some underwater scenes which I found pretty interesting. I always fond of underwater camera working and how actors act upon it. The shark attack is too beliveable, I was pretty shaken up. But the only major annoying prop is Scott Caan character. Either I really don't like him, or maybe we should hate his character, I can't decide. His character is such an asshole, I kept wishing he would get killed or something. As a protagonist in this movie, he's a jackass. Paul Walker and Jessica Alba done nothing beside being pretty in this movie, and although I'm not a big fan of them, I thought they're done their best in this movie. I especially like Josh Brolin in this movie. From the start I knew he's the baddie, but I thought he looks so hot, I could forgive him. Heh.
Due to my hectic schedule, I will not be able to review all new movies every week. I apologize. I will however review some older movies from DVDs from time to time. Thank you for understanding.
Welcome to my humble weblog, a place to quench your addiction of movies. Enjoy your stay. Sometimes it's okay to be addicted to movies. PS: Beware of my brash review and language. I have a crazy obsessive compulsive behavior of watching movies. I called it being passionate. LOL. Grab some popcorn, and have a nice day! By the way, you can click the boxes at each reviews to watch the movie trailers. Enjoy!
