One thing I really like about a great movie is, sometimes you can't wait to see the sequel. Whether or not a movie deserve a sequel (that's another story), the franchise of James Bond will continue forever. And I really like how they come up with a great story to continue. And I'm really glad that sometimes the sequel doesn't suck.
Seeking revenge for the death of Vesper (Eva Green) from previous movie; Casino Royale, James Bond (Daniel Craig) capture Mr. White (Jesper Christensen) to find out about the terrorist organization called Quantum, which is lead by an environmentalist named Dominic Greene (Mathieu Almaric). Blinded by vengeance, he endangered his mission, and M (Judi Dench) has no choice but to branded him a rogue agent. He's crossing path with another rogue secret agent named Camille (Olga Kurylenko) who also seeks revenge towards Quantum. Together they have to destroy the organization. Directed by Marc Forster.
As much I like this movie, I completely HATE the title. What the hell is Quantum of Solace means? I understand the name of the secret organization, and they tried to put it there in the bold title -- but still it's really a bad title. I can accept 'Quantum' only, but not with the whole 'Solace'. I get the whole dramatic purpose, which means roughly as 'seeking a closure'. But still...they could come up with a better title. Other than that, the movie is great. Not as good as Casino Royale, let me be truthful here. But great nonetheless. Some might argue that it lost the soul from the previous movie, but I digress. Sometimes you don't expect the sequel to be much better than the original, a rarity of course to see a better sequel. But it's better than a sucky sequel, right?
The action is more faster and grittier and dare I say, more brutal. It reminded me with The Bourne series. James Bond fights like Jason Bourne; really painful. He rarely used gadgets, but using more of his fists and wits and loads of guns. In this movie, his persona is more cold and more reckless -- albeit is a bit more of Batman; like a vigilante. He exudes charisma and self preserve. And more MACHO. This movie doesn't have any romance or drama whatsoever, and more focused on the action. I dislike the villain who lack of campy style like other villains before him. This villain is boring. Although I do like how Felix (Jeffrey Wright), the CIA agent is back. Does it make it better? Not really. I prefer Casino Royale, but for those who are looking for pure action and great ones, this is the movie. I hope they are making more of this franchise, but better next time.
Due to my hectic schedule, I will not be able to review all new movies every week. I apologize. I will however review some older movies from DVDs from time to time. Thank you for understanding.
