What can I say about this movie? Most of you, I bet already watched it (although I can think few people who won't even bother...) and I personally congratulate them for watching it. The expectation isn't dissapointing, and I truly had fun watching this movie. I have been a fan of the books; Goblet of Fire is the most thick ones. First time I read the fourth series, it took my breath away because it is very dark and a different disposition from the previous series. There are several differences between the book and the movie, and I won't bother explain it, 'cause it doesn't really matter. When translating a story from a book, you don't expect to copy all of them to the movie. That would ruin the fun, 'innit? Stay with the course and similarity, be faithful with the adaptation and the spirit, and you have yourself a mega box-office. I can say this latest Harry Potter instalment is my favorite movie from the previous Harry Potter series. Harry has to face "reality", so to speak -- hormones are everywhere. It's not about the magic anymore, but more to loyalties, friendship, romance, backstabbing, schools, memory and murder.
Harry is in his 4th year in Hogwarts. There's a Triwizard Tournament in the school, which is like championship between magic schools. Each school have one representative which is chosen by the Goblet of Fire. Students have to put their names into the goblet, and it will spit their eligible candidate. Harry's name is one of 'em, and he didn't even put his name in it. So he has to battle three champion, dragons, merfolks, dark magic, Yule Ball, asking a girl to a dance, broken hearted, betrayed by his friends, learning that your arch-enemy wants to kill you, prejudices from people, and how his life will never be the same again.
This is certainly not a movie for young children. Teen angst and relationship problems are pretty boring to little kids. I personally saw little kids were walking around and fell asleep in the theater, whilst the adults were enjoying the movie. The special effects are breathtaking, without even looking like special effects -- I can't even tell the different. The dragon looks real, I like the action (although it could do more). Pretty much wanted to see the Quidditch World Cup game, but they had to cut it to give more room to the storyline. The underwater scene is fantastic, I wish they can make a different movie under the sea or something -- because I want to see that kind of movie!
Harry is so grown up, I can't believe that he used to be that kid in the first movie. Ron, Seamus, Dean, Ginny, Neville, Draco, Crabbe, Goyle, Fred, George, Hannah, Justin, Ernie are all given lotsa screen time, it's so satisfying. The twins particularly crack me up. The adults like Snape, Dumbledore, Minerva, Lucius, Flitwick, Wormtail, and Hagrid are also given much deserve screen time. The only adults missing are Sirius, Molly, Bill, Charlie, and Percy -- although Sirius made a cameo. Hermione...wow. She's just kick ass. She's vulnerable and strong at the same time. Her acting is getting better and better. I predict she's the next big thing in the future. Lots of new addition to the movie; Cho, Angelina, Alicia, Katie, Pavarti, Padma, Cedric, Viktor, Fleur, Moody, Rita, Olympe, Barty Sr and Jr, (although they hardly do anything) and...Voldy!
Wow, Voldy is superb. Ralph Fiennes is my favorite actor, he is just believable evil. Heartbreak scenes happens several times, I won't tell when...I think you already know which ones. I cried and also sat on the edge of my seat. I can't give you more review, 'cause the movie explains by itself. If I want to, I can give you two pages of review about this movie, but that would be blah, 'innit? Long story short...This movie is a great. This movie will survive, and I will show it to my kids someday. Mike Newell, the director is done a great job. Relax now, and count your money, sir. And I will watch the movie again...until somebody smack me senseless.
Due to my hectic schedule, I will not be able to review all new movies every week. I apologize. I will however review some older movies from DVDs from time to time. Thank you for understanding.
Salute, -HoneyBee-
