Finally, after years of waiting, the final chapter of the saga is finished. Done! I am so relieved, and it really took me so long to review this movie. After the dissapointment in the previous prequels, I thought I wouldn't be able to watch another Star Wars. Then I got myself thrown into the hype with my friends and family. One particular fine day, me and my cousins went to see the movie (minus the ultimate fan of Star Wars, my oldest cousin...In your face! -- we missed you terribly. Ha, ha!) I had the ultimate fun watching the movie.
Three years after the Clone Wars, the Jedi Knights have been leading the clone army into a galaxy-wide battle against the Separatists. When Darth Sidious (Ian McDiarmid), unveil a thousand-year-old plot to rule the galaxy, the fate of Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), the Jedi order, and the entire galaxy is at stake. It also reveal the fate of Anakin who would become the greatest dictator in the whole universe as Darth Vader.
This movie is all about Darth Vader's story. The whole journey of Anakin into the dark side. Whilst the original Star Wars' story is about Luke, the prequels' story is about Anakin. This movie is darker than the previous ones, and almost the same tone like Empire Strikes Back. Although I do still find Anakin and Padme scenes a bit soapy, I thought they're okay. I almost cried when Padme said to Anakin, "You're down into a path that I can't follow!" That is one of the moment that I thought it really brings the whole darker tone. Everyone seems doing a great job in this movie, although a bit over the top with the dramatizing. I still think George Lucas should NOT directing, because his style a bit dry in the edge. He's not Steven Spielberg, but he's a good writer. But I just wish he would give the directing to someone else. Look Empire Strikes Back which directed by Irvin Kershner. The actors in that movie were given natural performances. I do feel they should cut back the whole CGI, because I am tired to watch a movie based pure on CGI. There are several flaws, but I'm willing to forget about it because I had fun watching this.
I enjoyed myself watching this movie with the rest of my family. We were gasping, laughing and crying. There are several favorite moments in the movie, like; the tragedy of Darth Plagueis in the opera and Order 66. I have a theory that Palpatine is actually Anakin's father. The whole movie should be re-name into 'Father and Son', because that is the main theme in the movie. Another moment like the fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) plus the fight between Yoda (Frank Oz) and Palpatine made my day. I almost yelled and jumped from my chair because I got a goosebump all over when Palpatine knighted Anakin into Darth Vader. The moment is very iconic. And then when Darth Vader arise from the table, me and my whole family were crying. We waited for years for this, ever since we watched the trilogy when we were kids ourselves. When the moment came, tears were streaming down our cheeks. Our heart skipped a beat when Obi-Wan delivers Luke to Tatooine and the original music was heard. It was unforgettable. I'd like to thank my family for enjoying this incredible series, somehow it brings us closer together.
Due to my hectic schedule, I will not be able to review all new movies every week. I apologize. I will however review some older movies from DVDs from time to time. Thank you for understanding.
