Jeez...not another snore-fest artsy-fartsy so called festival film. I have no problem usually with those, but disguising itself as art mainstream movie, but actually a semi-pornography without storyline can make me barf.
Marie (Caroline Ducey) is a school teacher and deeply in love with her boyfriend, Paul (Sagamore Stévenin). They live together like a married couple, but have a sexless and lack of intimacy relationship. He is free to flirt with everyone but forbids her to say anything about it. She cannot stand it, and explores risky relationship with many men, like Paolo (Rocco Siffredi), including a bondage domination sadism masochism relationship with her headmaster, Robert (François Berléand).
The title may refer to 'no romance', because this ain't romantic at all. But the storyline itself although daring in exploitation of sexual awakening and behavior towards a female prespective, I found it dull like a spoon. Hardly no chemistry and emotion at all between the characters, albeit it's deliberate for the sake of the characters itself. I didn't find anything amusing with this 'abusive' relationship nor accepting, although it is the reality. I thought it's laughable to see these pretty and beautiful characters, and yet they don't have any chemistry at all. Sagamore Stévenin is so damn handsome, but he just good to look at. He's like an ice prince. So cold, so it becomes boring. Caroline Ducey is very daring, and sometimes showing a genuine raw expression and reaction, although I don't see the line between acting and method acting in this so-called art movie. And don't get me started with Rocco Siffredi; he's actually a porn star. How do I know this? You don't want to know!
Character wise, I just wanna scream to Marie that Paul JUST NOT INTO YOU! But she clings on him like a leech, eventhough she knows that he won't be intimate with her. So she takes on 'revenge' by having sexual intercourse with strangers. How odd and stupid. If I was her, I already packed my bags and moved away from him. But love is complicated and sometimes irrational. I do understand the hardship of this kind of relationship; been there, done that. This movie though, I don't like it. The pacing is slow, the dialogue is incoherent, the script itself is not challenging and intriguing, although interesting but unnecessary. Not to mention the fantasy sequence is aghast. I've seen better porn than this, The ending also abysmal. So, if you like this movie -- whatever. Personally, I rather watch something else. Blargh.
Due to my hectic schedule, I will not be able to review all new movies every week. I apologize. I will however review some older movies from DVDs from time to time. Thank you for understanding.
