One of my favorite movies, and shame on those people who refuse to watch this movie cause of the content. Never judge a film by its content. This is a movie about life and the choices that people have. Choose life. Choose a job. Choose your future. But why would anyone want to do a thing like that? Never let your friends tie you to the tracks. Which life will you choose?
Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor), Spud (Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), Tommy (Kevin McKidd), and Begbie (Robert Carlyle) are so-called heroin junkies friends. Mark Renton is trying to get clean, but always falls back to his destructive habit. He has a relationship with a girl named Diane (Kelly MacDonald), and he is determined to get out from the drugs world. It isn't easy when he's deeply immersed by drugs and surrounded by junkie friends. Directed by Danny Boyle. Based on a novel by Irvin Welsh.
This movie is a reflection for reality, and I understand the emotions and the feelings of these characters. People can hit rock-bottom in one way or another, and somehow they can bounce back and repair their life. It's all matter of choices. What's good for each one of us. How do we want to live our life? There's no black and white point of view here. I've been in this kind of situation, and some of my friends also have the same problems. It's not easy to take control of your own life. In the end, how bad a person wants to change? This film grows enormously with every successive time I watch it. Every character gains substance, and I begin to comprehend the depth of each one of the situations portrayed. The music is great, especially the song called "Born Slippy" by Underworld, my favorite trance band.
This movie achieves to entertain, with a near-perfect pace, gorgeous performances and unbelievably wit lines, and still manages to tell an actually very important story, to reflect the view of the world that most of the people of our age share deep inside; the anger towards the modern empty ideals and the futility in resisting them. This is one of the key movies of our generation, a document of great value and a film that will stay for years to come. My favorite monologue of all time: "Now I'm cleaning up and I'm moving on, going straight and choosing life. I'm looking forward to it already. I'm gonna be just like you. The job, the family, the fucking big television. The washing machine, the car, the compact disc and electric tin opener, good health, low cholesterol, dental insurance, mortgage, starter home, leisure wear, luggage, three piece suite, DIY, game shows, junk food, children, walks in the park, nine to five, good at golf, washing the car, choice of sweaters, family Christmas, indexed pension, tax exemption clearing gutters, getting by, looking ahead, the day you die." A very good movie about salvations within. Hope and choice are our allies.
VERY GOOD point. gue ntar coba tonton. masalahnya cuman atu; kadang2 gue suka susah dapet film2 yg loe rekomendasiin, sedangkan gue ngebet bgt pgn nonton. disini sering bgt ada film festival, cuman trbatas banget. HUH. sedihnya diri gue... yes, i like your recommendations. tenkyu, ya.
if you like Danny Boyle's TRAINSPOTTING, you should watch his previous work, SHALLOW GRAVE (1994). rada mirip auranya, trus ada Ewan McGregor juga. gaya openingnya jg mirip. tapi gw lebih suka aura film SHALLOW GRAVE, lebih sinis, lebih gelap, lebih dewasa. (gw sangat suka salah satu quote-nya:"Oh, yes, I believe in friends, I believe we need them, but if, one day, you find you can't trust them any more, well, what then, what then?")
well, gak tau ya, nonton SHALLOW GRAVE sebelum nonton TRAINSPOTTING mungkin semacam mengamati prototype yg lebih rough, tapi jujur dan belum ada polesan komersialnya. kayak nonton idealisme Guy Ritchie di LOCK, STOCK, AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS sebelum dia nge-cast Brad Pitt SNATCH, atau menikmati DONGENG KANCIL TENTANG KEMERDEKAAN sebelum Garin mengemas-ulangnya menjadi lebih pop di DAUN DI ATAS BANTAL...
Due to my hectic schedule, I will not be able to review all new movies every week. I apologize. I will however review some older movies from DVDs from time to time. Thank you for understanding.
Welcome to my humble weblog, a place to quench your addiction of movies. Enjoy your stay. Sometimes it's okay to be addicted to movies. PS: Beware of my brash review and language. I have a crazy obsessive compulsive behavior of watching movies. I called it being passionate. LOL. Grab some popcorn, and have a nice day! By the way, you can click the boxes at each reviews to watch the movie trailers. Enjoy!
